Intel Case Competition Challenges Eller MBAs

More Information

Early in the spring semester, Eller MBA teams compete in an internal case competition sponsored by Intel. The final four teams advance to a competition judged by a panel of business leaders from Intel.

The Challenge

This year, Intel decided to challenge the teams with a case related to another corporation, says Henry Corral (controller, corporate services — Americas region at Intel). The teams were tasked with examining the evolution of Apple over the past 30 years, with specific emphasis placed on the Steve Jobs turnaround beginning in 1997. The teams addressed questions including how Apple can continue to grow profitably, suggesting new or enhanced products in which to invest, and provided detailed financials to support their suggestions.

The Winners

The first-year team of Zhuxi Chen, Lee Ann Christiansen, Vishal Rupani, and Derik Robinson came out on top. The team presented ideas for an enhanced iPod device, and suggested that Apple re-brand iTunes to iMedia, since the web-based portal hosts television programming in addition to music downloads.
