Curriculum Vitae

Alex Wilson

Senior Lecturer
Department of Finance

Alex Wilson is a senior lecturer in the Department of Finance of the Eller College of Management at The University of Arizona. Alex has been teaching since joining Villanova University in 1996, and full-time since 1999, at the California State University, Long Beach, Rhode Island College, and now at UA. Additionally, he has taught online at the University of Maryland and Marylhurst University, and conducted seminars at Pepperdine and the Budapest University of Technology and Economics. In addition to teaching, Alex is an active reviewer of textbooks and journal articles, and has been involved in a number of publisher and university based pedagogical projects.

Alex received his Ph.D. from Drexel University in 1999, with a minor in accounting. His dissertation, “A Longitudinal Study of Executive Compensation: Evidence and Explanations” was a 60-year study of the composition of and sensitivity to firm performance of chief executive officer compensation for the Dow Jones Industrial companies. Alex has published executive compensation articles in the Journal of Insurance Issues and Financial Decisions, and education productivity articles in the Journal of Financial Education and the Journal of Legal Education. Alex also earned an MBA in finance from the University of Denver and a BA in political science from the University of Colorado.

Prior to becoming an academic, Alex had a 20-year career in the hospitality industry as an auditor, controller, regional controller, director of budgets, director of capital budgeting, and director of systems for Marriott, Stouffer, Radisson, Trusthouse Forte, and several independents. He says he misses the pace and the perquisites of corporate life, but does not miss the constant relocations and travel.

Alex and his wife Kathy are constantly busy with renovation projects in their recently acquired 70-year-old Tucson home, whom they share with a very demanding 15-year-old Labrador and two undemanding college aged daughters.
