Lehman Benson III

Associate Professor
McCoy/Rogers Faculty Fellow
Department of Management and Organizations

Dr. Lehman Benson III is associate professor and the McCoy/Rogers Fellow of Management and Organizations at The University of Arizona. He received his B.A. from the University of California at Davis, his M.A. from the University of California at San Diego, and his Ph.D. in cognitive psychology from Lund University in Sweden. His post-graduate education was completed at the University of California at Berkeley, where he was awarded a Presidential Post-Doctoral Fellowship.

Benson has published numerous research articles examining information processing in human judgment and decision making. He is on the editorial boards of the Journal of Behavioral Decision Making and The Journal of Management. His ongoing research examines the effect of stress, time constraints, and feedback on judgment and decision making. While in Sweden, with funding from the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, he established a laboratory to investigate time management strategies. His teaching interests include managerial effectiveness, managing human capital, managing change, and the dynamics of bargaining.

During his tenure at The University of Arizona, Benson has won numerous college, university, and state teaching/service awards including Professor of the Year, Teacher of the Year, Outstanding Advisor, and an MBA Distinguished Teaching Award. In addition to teaching at The University of Arizona, he has taught at Georgetown University and Duke University.

Benson also consults and teaches executive education seminars for various companies and government agencies. Some of the companies and agencies that he has worked with include IBM, Arizona Health Care Professionals, Indian Health Services, the American Cancer Society, MONEY Mutual of New York, the Arizona Bar Association, FINOVA, Raytheon, the Department of Defense, and Pulitzer Newspapers.
