Roberto J. Mejias

Dr. Roberto J. Mejias received his Ph.D. in management information systems (MIS) in 1995 from The University of Arizona. Prior to arriving at the Eller College, Mejias was an assistant professor of management information systems at the University of Oklahoma (1995-2000) and Purdue University’s Krannert School of Management (2000-2005), and was a visiting clinical professor of information systems at Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business (2005-2006). Mejias has also taught in the executive MBA programs for the Chinese University of Hong Kong and the German International School of Management and Administration (GISMA) in Hanover, Germany.
Before completing his Ph.D., Mejias was an industrial engineer, manufacturing support engineer, and HR college recruiter for IBM Corporation (1980-1989). He also has two years’ experience in the governmental sector (U.S. Dept. of Commerce, City of South Tucson). His research interests are in the areas of information systems (IS) security, IS security threats and safeguards, cyber-terrorism, and the human computer interaction impact of computer mediated communication (CMC) technology such as group support system upon productivity and performance. He has undertaken international field research in Monterrey, Mexico; Hong Kong; and South America (Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay, and Paraguay). He has published his research in the Communications of the ACM, the Journal of Management Information Systems, the Journal of Information Technology Management, the Journal of Global Marketing, and the Journal of Small Group Research, in addition to foreign journal publications. He was also recently named to the Decision Sciences journal editorial board.
Mejias is a member of CIBER (Center for International Business and Education and Research), Purdue HSI (Homeland Security Institute), CERIAS (Center for Education and Research Information Assurance and Security), the Society of Hispanic Engineers (SHPE), the Institute of Industrial Engineers (IIE), Decision Science Institute (DSI), and the Academy of International Business (AIB). He has received over 17 teaching excellence awards and recognitions across four universities. Mejias is also a fourth generation U.S. citizen from a pioneer Spanish and Mexico-Arizona family in Tucson, Arizona. He speaks fluent Spanish and has partial fluency in Italian and Portuguese.
