Barry Goldman

Dr. Barry Goldman is an associate professor of management and policy at the Eller College of Management at The University of Arizona. He received his B.A. in public policy analysis at the University of Maryland (1977) and, after graduation, studied politics & aconomics at Oxford University (1977-78). He also received a law degree from the University of Maryland (1982), where he was managing editor of the law review. After practicing law for 10 years, he returned to Maryland to get his Ph.D. (1998) in management (with a concentration in human resources). His dissertation investigated why employees file employment discrimination lawsuits.

Goldman has taught extensively in professional MBA programs at The University of Arizona, including those involving Executive and Evening MBA programs. He has received the Distinguished Faculty Award three times from students in the executive education program. He has also been invited by Wuhan University to teach negotiations in their executive education program in the People’s Republic of China.

Goldman’s primary area of research involves issues of conflict management, particularly relating to legal-issues and mediation involving employees. His research often focuses on managerial decisions with legal implications. He has published in The Academy of Management Journal, Journal of Applied Psychology, Personnel Psychology, Journal of Management, and the Journal of Organizational Behavior, among other outlets. His research has also been featured in The Wall Street Journal, Inc. Magazine, and has recently been quoted extensively by the Dalai Lama in his book, The Art of Happiness at Work. He has twice received best paper awards from his research colleagues.
