Mission Statement

The Eller MBA Industry Advisory Board (IAB) participates in the student transformation process by interacting with students and providing advice to the Eller MBA team in the areas of career management, alumni engagement, and community partnerships. 

Vision

Dedicated and engaged industry leaders and alumni who actively support Eller MBA’s mission and goals.

Purpose

  • Positively promote Eller MBA to corporate connections, prospective students, etc.
  • Proactively assist with employment outcomes by providing corporate contacts, job opportunities, and networking opportunities
  • Actively support student development activities, academic projects and presentations
  • Successfully assist with community building, fundraising, and corporate sponsorship initiatives

Michael M. Schneider, IAB Board Chair, Sempra Energy

In Mike Schneider's current position at Southern California Gas Company (SoCalGas) and San Diego Gas & Electric Company (SDG&E), he is responsible for real estate, facilities, fleet services, and environmental services for both California utilities, as well as land services and the clean transportation program for SDG&E.

Over the last 24 years, Mike has held various positions within SoCalGas and SDG&E in pricing, finance, customer services and regulatory affairs.  Most recently, Mike served as vice president of customer operations, where he oversaw billing, collections, customer contact center and the meter reading organization, remittance processing and credit. He was the treasurer of both SoCalGas and SDG&E, responsible for treasury activity, financial and economic analysis included in regulatory filings, risk management and strategic planning. Prior to his employment with SoCalGas and SDG&E, Mike was employed by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) as an energy economist in the office of electric power regulation.

Mike is currently on the board of the San Diego River Park Foundation and was recently board chair of the California Southland Chapter of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, a charity that Mike continues to support. 

Mike is married to his college sweetheart, Meg, whom he met at University of Arizona, and they have 4 children.  Mike enjoys traveling, cooking, wine and sports.  

Joe Delgado, SAP

Joe Delgado currently works for SAP’s Consulting Division with a focus on the retail industry.  Joe works with companies to help them with business transformation projects implementing ERP and Cloud based solutions to address their business priorities. Joe comes to SAP from Avnet where he spent three years as the Director of The Retail Solutions Practice managing consultants nationally. Joe was responsible for designing and launching Avnet’s retail practice and had the opportunity to work with multiple vendors to bring their solutions to market.  Prior to Avnet Joe spent 14 years as Client Executive working for IBM’s Retail Store Solutions division with responsibility for retailers and partners nationally.  Joe is a graduate of the University of Arizona with his bachelor’s degree in accounting living in Tucson, AZ.  While Joe was at Avnet he worked with The Terry J. Lundgren Center for Retailing to form a strategic partnership.  In his spare time Joe enjoys spending time with his wife and two kids in Tucson. Also, Joe is an avid runner and cyclist

Rahul Deshmukh, Flow Dry Technology

Rahul Deshmukh is currently the President and CEO of Flow Dry Technology, Inc. Headquartered in Brookville, OH, Flow Dry Technology manufactures packaged desiccants for automotive, appliance, and commercial air conditioning units, as well as refrigeration systems. Previously, Rahul served as the President of Sargent Aerospace & Defense and the President and General Manager at OPW Fueling Components, both operating companies of Dover Corporation. In these roles, Rahul successfully transformed under-performing businesses and delivered robust, profitable growth.

Prior to his time with Dover Corporation, Rahul worked for Emerson Electric in its corporate development team in St. Louis in the areas of acquisitions and strategic planning. Rahul also led the global marketing and strategic planning teams at Daniel Measurement & Control, an operating company in the oil and gas market within the Emerson Process Management segment.

Rahul is a chemical engineer from Mumbai, India, and prior to coming to the U.S. in 1998 spent ten years in the chemical industry in Asia. 

Jay Geldmacher, Artesyn Embedded Technologies

Jay Geldmacher joined Emerson in January 1996.  Since 2007, he has been serving as Executive Vice President as well as President of Emerson Network Power’s Embedded Computing & Power Group, a global business for which he has full profit and loss responsibility.  From 2006 to 2007, Jay served as Group Vice President of Emerson Network Power and President of Embedded Computing & Power. Prior to that, he was President of Astec Power Solutions (1998-2006) and President of Astec Standard Power Worldwide (1996-1998), both of which were Emerson subsidiaries.  Prior to joining Emerson, Jay served in various management capacities with Knowles Electronics.

Jay currently serves on the board of directors for Owen-Illinois, Inc. and is a member of its audit committee and nominating corporate governance committee.  He is also a director of Seagate Technology PLC and serves on its compensation committee.  Jay was elected to the boards of Owen-Illinois and Seagate in 2009 and 2012, respectively.  In addition, he serves on the advisory boards for the undergraduate and graduate programs of the Eller College of Management at the University of Arizona.

John Hambacher, Amazon

John Hambacher leads worldwide book conversion operations for Amazon Kindle, managing teams in the US, Europe, and Asia. He has a diverse set of experiences across industries (consumer healthcare, pharmaceuticals, computer software, retail, and consumer electronics) and business functions (finance, accounting, project management, engineering management, operations).  John lives with his wife Nancy Overall Hambacher (Nursing ’88) and teenage son Jake in the Greater Seattle area.

Edward Long is a principal and portfolio manager of Gillespie, Robinson and Grimm, Inc., an independent investment management firm located in Greenwich, CT.  Edward and his partners manage approximately $1 Billion of equity and fixed income portfolios for high net worth individuals/families and institutions, including pensions, profit sharing plans and non-profit foundations and endowments.

Edward began his investment management career in 1994 in the Merrill Lynch Fast Track Training Program. After training as a security analyst, Edward managed portfolios for institutions and high net worth individuals and later  co-founded  Merrill Lynch’s institutional equity division. He also helped to integrate Mercury Asset Management based in London and Hotchkis and Wiley based  in Los Angeles into the Merrill Lynch Asset Management division. In 2000, Edward accepted a Managing Director position at Lazard Asset Management in New York City for three years as a portfolio manager of large institutional pensions and high-net-worth individual portfolios. Prior to joining Gillespie, Robinson & Grimm in 2005, Edward spent two years with U.S. Trust in Palm Beach, Florida as Vice President, Senior Portfolio Manager in the Wealth Management Group.  Edward began his business career at IBM Corporation in Research Triangle Park, NC as an industrial engineer manufacturing PCs and Laptops. Edward is a Chartered Financial Analyst and member of the New York Society of Security Analysts.

Vicki E. Panhuise is currently the CEO of National Technical Systems (NTS), the leading independent provider of environmental simulation testing, inspection, and certifications solutions in the United States. Prior to joining NTS, she was a consultant for NorthFind Partners specializing in Mergers & Acquisitions due diligence and business integration. She was president of Airborne Systems Group (ASG), a division of HDT Global, responsible for the design and production of high performance parachutes for international aerospace and military markets from 2012 – 2014. Prior to ASG, Vicki served as president and owner of VePoint Consulting Group, providing change management, program management execution, and merger and acquisition consulting services. Vicki retired from Honeywell Aerospace in January 2011 as vice president of the Military Aircraft/US Defense Customers Strategic Business. In addition to earning her Six Sigma Black Belt for Leaders certification, Vicki was certified as a Program Management Professional. In 2008, she was appointed by the Governor of Arizona to serve as the Chairman of the Arizona Aerospace & Defense Commission, and in 2010, to also serve on the Arizona Commerce Authority (ACA) board of directors. Vicky is a past member of the Greater Tucson Economic Council, serving as an executive committee member. She also served on the Valley of the Sun United Way Community Impact Committee. Vicki is married to John and resides in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Alejandro Rios, Intel Corporation

Alejandro Rios has been employed by Intel Corporation over the last thirteen years where he has held multiple positions within the finance organization. He is currently the CPLG Central Finance Manager.  Prior to working at Intel he was employed in the banking arena by Bank of America and later Wells Fargo Bank.

During his undergraduate career at The University of Arizona he held a variety of campus leadership positions including Fraternity Chapter President, Inter fraternity Council President and Student Body Treasurer and ROTC.  He was active in the US Army Reserve from 1995 to 2003.  Alejandro has also recently served as the National Vice President of Finance and National President of Omega Delta Phi and Vice Chair for the National Association of Latino Fraternal Organizations (NALFO).  Alejandro graduated from the inaugural class of Eller’s Executive MBA program in October of 2006.

Alejandro previously served as the Chair of the Board of Directors for Improving Chandler Area Neighborhoods (I.C.A.N) a non-profit organization which provides free, comprehensive after school programs that empower youth ages five to nine-teen to be productive, self-confident and responsible citizens.  He currently serves on the financial committee for Chicanos Por La Causa and is a community advisor to the Lambda Chapter of Kappa Delta Chi.   

Alejandro enjoys spending time with his family, reading on a variety of topics, cooking and working on his yard. Alejandro has been married to Norma Rios (Sotomayor) for 7 years and has three boys - Alejandro whom is 5 years old, Joaquin whom is 3 years old and an 11 month old Santiago.

Bill Shulby, Accenture

Bill Shulby, over the course of his 30 year career, has had the good fortune of working with or for many notable professional services, health care, financial services, manufacturing, telecommunications and consumer goods companies including Accenture, Ernst & Young, Health Care Service Company (HCSC), Cigna, Anthem BCBS, BCBS of NC, Humana, Eli Lilly, USAA, American Express, Citigroup, Automobile Club of Southern California, Rockwell Automation, Compaq, Dell, Verizon, Home Depot and Office Depot.  Bill has also worked with M&A specialists and venture capital firms assisting them with both pre-and post transaction work.

Bill is currently Senior Principal in the Health & Public Service Practice of Accenture working with National and Regional Health Plans and Providers that are seeking to drive customer-centric, technology-enabled Payer and Provider business transformation and change. Bill’s work helps clients realize improvements in areas such as Patient/Member Engagement and Experience, Analytics & Insights Management, Product Development and Management, Sales Enablement, and Leadership Development.

Prior to joining Accenture, Bill served as a corporate executive at Cigna where he was responsible for global learning and innovation strategies for US and international markets targeting improved sales, marketing, and product management performance. Earlier in his career, Bill rose through the ranks to be named partner at Ernst & Young in Management Consulting. Later, Bill was an adjunct faculty member in the Marketing Department at the Kenan-Flagler Business School at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill while operating his own consultancy after serving as Managing Partner, CRM Consulting Services, for Peppers and Rogers Group.

Bill and his wife Nancy live in Scottsdale, AZ and have four children each of whom have strong ties with University of Arizona.

Brad Smidt, Greater Phoenix Economic Council

Brad Smidt is the Vice President of Business Development and specializes in site-selection assistance for companies in the advanced business services industry. During his time at GPEC, Smidt has helped more than 100 companies expand or relocate to the Greater Phoenix area.

Smidt’s extensive experience involves projects with customer service centers, corporate and regional headquarters, back office operations and data centers. He has also developed key relationships with many corporations, site-selection firms and corporate real estate executives.

Prior to joining Greater Phoenix Economic Council, Smidt served as the economic development manager for the City of Mesa. In this role, he successfully implemented a business retention and expansion program that annually called upon 100 Mesa businesses. Smidt has also worked for the Chandler Chamber of Commerce, where he managed an economic development contract with the city to implement business attraction, retention and tourism marketing.

Smidt is a native Arizonan who grew up in Greater Phoenix. His local ties have contributed to his vast knowledge of the area and familiarity with the unique assets of its workforce. Beyond GPEC, Smidt has served on the board of CoreNet’s Desert Mountain Chapter and still remains actively involved with the organization.

In 2008, Brad received the Economic Developer of the Year award from the Arizona Association of Economic Development.

Smidt earned a bachelor’s degree in regional development from the University of Arizona. He is a certified economic developer and a graduate of the Economic Development Institute at the University of Oklahoma.

Ryan Smith, Banner Health

Ryan Smith has worked in the health information technology field for 20 years and serves as the SVP of Information Technology & CIO at Banner Health, one of the nation’s largest not-for-profit healthcare systems. His passion is helping to transform traditional healthcare delivery models by digitally empowering consumers and providers with highly integrated tools and information. He believes that information and technology hold the keys to improved quality, lower costs, and increased patient engagement and satisfaction. He enjoys spending time with his wife and five teenage children, hiking, mountain biking, running, and enjoying the outdoors. Mr. Smith received his bachelor's degree in Computer Science and holds an MBA in IT Management.

Steven Soderberg, Fitbit

Steven Soderberg has been a CIO/VP, I.T. for San Francisco Bay Area companies for over 19 years.  He has held executive positions at the highest of High Tech companies (Symantec, PGP, Force10 Networks, Vocera and now Fitbit) and the lowest of Low Tech (Robert Mondavi).  During those years, he has also held leadership positions in logistics, materials management, tech support, customer service, and winery operations.  With a career emphasis on business application systems, Steven’s responsibilities span application software systems, networking and corporate infrastructure.  Steven has a BA from Stanford University, and now lives in the San Francisco East Bay for easy exit to Lake Tahoe where he snow/water skis every chance he gets.

David Spinelli, Microsoft Corporation

David Spinelli is currently employed at Microsoft as a Senior Enterprise Architect. As part of Microsoft's Enterprise Strategy and Architecture Team, David provides CxO advisory services targeted at the Global 2000. His primary industry focus is provider-side healthcare. David is a highly seasoned Program Director and Enterprise Architect who has successfully managed many complex multi-million dollar IT projects

Previously, David has been an internal IT leader within JP Morgan Chase, Johnson & Johnson and held management consultant roles with Deloitte Consulting and The Hackett Group.

David's passion is around developing people and watching the next generational leaders do great things. He sees mentoring and developing people as his personal legacy. Through his work at Deloitte Consulting's Wall Street office, David had the opportunity to hire and develop young talent from the top MBA schools. He is currently the Chairman of the MBA Industry Advisory Board at the Eller School of Business at the University of Arizona.

In 2015, David completed his Masters degree in the Eller Online Masters in MIS program.

Outside of work, David is a passionate golfer, races sailboats, and practices yoga. David’s son, Nicholas, is a  student at Santa Clara University studying economics.

Lynn Ventimiglia-Lobit, diamonddog Strategic Marketing Services

Lynn Lobit is the Principal and Founder of diamonddog Strategic Marketing Services, a full-service marketing firm that works with clients ranging from start-ups to the Fortune 500.  Prior to launching diamonddog, Lynn led the global marketing activities for NEC’s Enterprise Communication Technologies business.  Previously, Ms. Lobit was employed for over 16 years at Motorola where she led globally event management, marketing communications, and product marketing for various business units.  Lynn started her marketing career at Gloria Jean’s Gourmet Coffees where she helped found the Wholesale Coffee Division.  Motorola was its first customer.  During her career she has won several awards including two from the Business Marketing Association.

Lynn is a member of the CMO Council and a contributing author to its magazine, Peer Sphere.  In her spare time, Lynn enjoys reading, working out, activities at her parish, and involvement with Animal House Shelter.  Lynn resides in East Dundee, Illinois with her husband, Marc, and their two dogs, Savannah and Bella.  

James M. Wolf, Raytheon Missile Systems

James M. (Jim) Wolf is deputy vice president of Advanced Missile Systems at Raytheon Missile Systems. In this position, he is responsible for leading, developing, coordinating and directing all existing and developing sales efforts, marketing and business development strategies for the business. He is also responsible for identifying and creating competitive advantages to position Missile Systems for continued growth in existing and developing markets. Raytheon Company (NYSE: RTN), with 2011 sales of $25 billion, is a technology and innovation leader specializing in defense, homeland security and other government markets throughout the world. With headquarters in Waltham, Mass., Raytheon employs 71,000 people worldwide.

Before his current assignment, Wolf was the vice president of Business Development and deputy of the Air Warfare Systems product line. His previous assignments include director of the Phalanx, SeaRAM, Land-Based Phalanx, and associated performance based logistics programs, as well as management of Raytheon’s Louisville facility. He has also served as program manager of a major proprietary effort and manager of Advanced Programs’ Business Development, where he was responsible for the business development of over 40 programs, Business Development lead on AIM-9 and EKV, as well as proposal and capture lead on various programs at Raytheon Missile Systems.

Prior to his career in the defense industry, Wolf served 10 years in the U.S. Navy. His assignments included operational test director for Short Range Missiles, Helmet Mounted Cueing Systems, IRCM and Threat SRM Systems. He also completed an operational tour in F-14s.
